UNU-INRA PhD Internship Programme

UNU-INRA, with funding from Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), is undertaking a three-year project entitled “Unleashing the Potential of African Rural Economies through Green Growth”. The project aims to provide empirical evidence on how green growth strategies can, amongst others, influence employment, income generation, competitiveness and social inclusion in rural Africa under four thematic areas:

1.    Green business opportunities in rural Africa
2.    Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and resource efficiency, productivity and resilience in rural Africa
3.    Rural SMEs and ecosystem services
4.    Institutions and governance for environmentally-friendly business practices

Stipend

UNU-INRA will provide two types of financial support. A monthly stipend of around USD 1,000.00 will be provided to a successful applicant spending a maximum of four months within the programme. The stipend is a contribution towards accommodation, subsistence, medical and other expenses.

For a successful applicant under the two-year scholarship, a monthly stipend of around USD 600.00 will be provided. The stipend is a contribution towards subsistence, medical and other expenses. For the latter category of interns, the programme does make a provision for an allowance not exceeding USD 5,000.00 for collection of primary data when necessary, and allowance for their PhD advisors, not exceeding USD 2,000.00. For all successful applicants, the Institute will provide a round trip ticket to and from the location of the programme.

OFID the OPEC Fund for International Development

OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) is pleased to announce that qualified applicants who have obtained or are on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree and who wish to study for a Master’s degree are welcome to apply for the OFID Scholarship 2015/2016.

OFID scholarships will be awarded to four students or candidates for master’s degree studies. Applicants must be from a developing country (except OFID Member Countries), and he/she must first obtain admission to pursue a Master’s degree studies in a relevant field of development, from any recognized university/college in the world.

Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers – the cost of graduate studies. The winners of the OFID Scholarship Award will receive a scholarship of up to US$50,000. The funds will be spread over a maximum of two years, toward the completion of a Master’s degree, or its equivalent, at an accredited educational institution, starting in the autumn of the academic year 2015/2016.

African Network of Scientific and Technical Institutions (ANSTI) Post-Graduate Fellowships 2015

Deadline: 31 May 2015  

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) collaborates with ANSTI by offering financial support for masters and PhD degrees at ANSTI's institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa. Fellowships are for studies outside the applicants' home countries. The program is open to participants at ANSTI's member institutions who are less than 36 years old at the time of application.

Rolex Awards for Enterprise 2016

In 2016, to celebrate the initiative’s four decades of existence, Rolex will offer five Laureate Awards and five Young Laureate Awards, asking an independent Jury of experts to choose 10 exceptional individuals who demonstrate that they have pioneering projects that will benefit the world.

The Rolex Awards are open to anyone over 18 years of age, of any nationality, whose ground-breaking project is helping to expand the knowledge of our world and improve the quality of life on the planet. Projects are grouped broadly in the areas of science and health, applied technology, exploration and discovery, the environment, and cultural heritage.

The Laureates will each receive 100,000 Swiss francs and the Young Laureates 50,000 Swiss francs each to advance their projects. They will also benefit from worldwide publicity and receive a Rolex chronometer.
Candidates for the Rolex Awards can submit their project ideas in a short online per-application.
