The Food & Business Applied Research Fund

The Food & Business Applied Research Fund provides grants to applied research contributing to innovation for food security and private sector development in the 15 partner countries of Dutch development cooperation. Proposals may be submitted by consortia consisting of at least one private or public practitioner’s organisation active in the partner countries and one research or higher education organisation. One Dutch partner is required.

Eligible countries: The 15 partner countries of Dutch development cooperation: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, and Yemen.

A grant amounts to a minimum of 50,000 euro (for six months) to a maximum of 300,000 euro (for 36 months). Per 6 months a maximum of 50,000 euro ARF subsidy can be applied for.
Grants should contribute directly to the project. Reimbursable costs include:
•    Personnel costs: up to a maximum of gross (before tax) monthly salaries of 3200 euro for support staff, € 4500 for junior staff and € 6500 for senior staff. Overhead costs to a maximum of 10% of the grant;
•    Innovation costs: consumables and durables. Travel and accommodation costs for the project team members and consortium partners (maximum 20% of the ARF grant budget);
•    Knowledge sharing costs: activities for sharing the projects' experiences and outputs with a broader group of stakeholders beyond the consortium and project team (maximum of 15% of the grant budget).
